Judicial Laws Amendment Bill - Committee Stage amendment

This Bill - the Judicial Laws Amendment (Ease of Settling Commercial and Other Disputes) Bill, to give it its full title - went through its Committee Stage in the National Assembly on Wednesday 12th April 2017.

One amendment was made on the motion of Vice-President Mnangagwa, to clause 5 ("Savings").  This clause declares, for the avoidance of doubt, that certain specialised courts established under Acts other than the High Court Act are "specialised divisions of the High Court for the purpose of section 171(3) of the Constitution.   The original clause omitted the Special Court for Income Tax Appeals.  The amendment seeks to remedy that omission by adding that court.

The Bill as amended was then referred to the Parliamentary Legal Committee for a report on the constitutionality of the amendment.
