Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 2) Bill : An Overview

In previous Constitution Watches [see below for links to these bulletins] we analysed specific provisions of the Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 2) Bill, which ‒ coronavirus permitting ‒ is likely to be presented in Parliament soon after the 17th April.

Constitution of Zimbabwe Amendment (No. 1) Act

The Act was published in a Government Gazette Extraordinary on 7th September 2017.    The date of commencement, therefore, is 7th September 2017.

The main effect of the amendment is to change the procedure for the appointment of the Chief Justice, the Deputy Chief Justice and the Judge President of the High Court.  These appointments will now be made by the President after consultation with the Judicial Service Commission.
