Correction of Omissions and Errors in ZEC’s First Lists of Nominated Candidates

The Acting Chief Elections Officer of the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission [ZEC] has published two General Notices [GNs] correcting omissions from and errors in the lists gazetted on 22nd June in GNs 411 and 412.  The effect of these corrections is summarised below.

GN 2018 - 431 Designation of Trial Magistrates for Politically Motivated Violence and Intimidation Cases

IT is hereby notified that the Judicial Service Commission has, in terms of section 133J(3) of the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13], designated the magistrates listed in the Schedule below to try cases of politically motivated violence and intimidation in the provinces under which their names appear before, during and after the harmonised elections for President, Members of the National Assembly and Councillors scheduled to take place on Monday 30th July, 2018.

GN 2018 - 409 Addresses of Constituency elections officers for harmonized elections 2018

IT is hereby notified that, the Chief Elections Officer has, in terms of section 4 of the Electoral Regulations, 2005, published in Statutory Instrument 21 of 2005, appointed the persons specified in the first column of the Schedule to be Constituency Elections Officers in Constituencies specified in the second column of that Schedule at the addresses specified in the third column thereto.

There have been several news articles misrepresenting Veritas.  Whether they have criticised or congratulated Veritas for taking cases on election matters, the implication has been that we are doing it for political reasons or to hamper ZEC’s ability to run elections.

Today, the 30th May 2018, President Mnangagwa gazetted a proclamation setting the dates for the forthcoming general election.  The proclamation can be accessed on the Veritas website [link]
