Parliamentary Committee of Privileges to Investigate Contempt of Parliament Charges against MDC-A MPs

NATIONAL ASSEMBLY RESOLVES THAT COMMITTEE OF PRIVILEGES
BE APPOINTED TO LOOK INTO ALLEGED CONTEMPT OF PARLIAMENT CONSTITUTED BY DISRESPECT SHOWN TO THE PRESIDENT BY MDC-A MPs SINCE BEGINNING OF NINTH PARLIAMENT

After the 2020 National Budget Presentation the National Assembly, in tbrief proceedings which, like the Budget presentation, took place in the absence of MDC-A MPs, approved a motion by the ZANU-PF Chief Whip, Hon Togarepi, that a Committee of Privileges should be appointed to look into, and report to the National Assembly on, allegations of breach of privilege by MDC-A MPs amounting to contempt of Parliament. The basis of the complaint is disrespectful conduct towards President Mnangagwa on five occasions since the beginning of this Parliament.  The Committee on Standing Rules and Orders is responsible for the appointment of the Committee of Privileges.
