SADC Protocol on Environmental Management for Sustainable Development

Background and Purpose:
The protocol was signed by SADC member states and came into effect on 18 August 2014 during the 34th SADC Summit held in Victoria Falls, Zimbabwe.
Its primary objective is to enhance sound environmental management practices that contribute to the social and economic well-being of the people in the region.
The protocol aligns with international agreements such as the United Nations Conference on Environment and Development (UNCED) and Agenda 21, emphasizing sustainable development principles.
