Guardianship of Minors Act as at 1 Aug 2021

AN ACT to amend the law relating to the guardianship and custody of minors.

[Date of commencement: 30th June, 1961.]

1 Short title

This Act may be cited as the Guardianship of Minors Act [Chapter 5:08].

2 Interpretation

In this Act—

“clerk of a children’s court” and “children’s court” shall have the meanings, respectively, given to them by the Children’s Act [Chapter 5:06].

The Second Reading Stage of the Guardianship of Minors Amendment Bill started in the National Assembly on Tuesday 24th August 2021 (with the delivery of the Second Reading speech by the Minister of Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs) and continued on Thursday 26th August (with the presentation of the Report on the Bill by the Portfolio Committee on Justice, Legal and Parliamentary Affairs). Proceedings were then adjourned until Tuesday 7th September.
