Carter Centre Preliminary Statement On Zimbabwe’s 2023 Harmonized Elections

As the election process has not yet concluded, this press statement covers the process thus far. The Center will continue to observe and assess the remaining post-election process and will issue a preliminary statement shortly and a comprehensive final report in the coming months, which will include recommendations for steps that could improve future elections.

IT is hereby notified, for general information that each person whose name is specified in the Schedule has, with effect from the 25th of August, 2023, been duly elected as a member of the Senate, National Assembly or Provincial Council, as the case may be, for their respective provinces.

 

 

 

GN 2023-1380B Election of Senators to Represent Persons with Disabilities - Names of Elected Candidates

IT is hereby notified, in terms of paragraph 3(6)(b) of the Seventh Schedule to the Electoral Act [Chapter 2:13], that Shiri Annah and Zhou Ishumael were duly elected Senators to represent persons with Disabilities with effect from the 26th of August, 2023.

 

 

GN 2023-1344 2023 Harmonised Elections - PWDs Senator Elections - 26th August, 2023

IT is hereby notified that, for the purposes of section 120(1)(d) of the Constitution, the Zimbabwe Electoral Commission will conduct the elections of two Senators to represent Persons with Disabilities (PWDs). The Electoral College comprising Associations and Institutions and Institutions specified in Statutory Instrument 133 of 2023 will sit at the Rainbow Towers Hotel Harare, on Saturday, 26th August, 2023, from 0700 to 1900 hours to elect the said Senators.

GN 2023-1334 Presidential Election - 23rd August, 2023 - Name of Nominated Candidate

IT is hereby notified that, following an order of the Electoral Court sitting in Harare, issued on the 19th of July, 2023, Elisabeth-Isabel Valerio, a candidate sponsored by the United Zimbabwe Alliance (UZA) party, is hereby declared a duly nominated candidate for the Presidential Election. Polling shall take place on 23rd August, 2023, from 7:00 a.m. to 7:00 p.m. for the purpose of electing the State President.

[1] On 28 July 2023 this Court dismissed with no order as to costs an appeal against the judgment of the High Court under judgment number HH 418/23 dated 12 July 2023. At the end of the proceedings this Court indicated that the reasons for this decision would be availed in due course. Set out hereunder are the Court’s reasons thereof.
